Cuckoos - Trogons - Motmots

Manuel Antonio National Park is home to a diverse range of bird species, including Cuckoos (Cuculidae), Trogons (Trogonidae), and Motmots (Momotidae), all of which contribute to the park's vibrant ecosystems. Cuckoos, known for their distinctive calls and parasitic nesting behavior, are often found in the park’s dense foliage, where they feed on insects and small vertebrates. Trogons, with their striking plumage and unique tail feathers, are typically seen in the park’s tropical forests, where they feed on fruits and insects while playing a role in maintaining forest health through their feeding habits. Motmots, recognized for their long, colorful tails with distinctive " racket-like" tips, are often found in the park’s lower to mid-canopy, where they hunt for insects, lizards, and small birds. Each of these species adds to the rich biodiversity of Manuel Antonio National Park, providing valuable ecological functions and enhancing the park’s complex food web.
