Volcanoes of Costa Rica

Costa Rica is renowned for its dramatic volcanic landscape, home to over 120 volcanic formations, including at least five active volcanoes. Some of the country’s most iconic volcanoes are Arenal, which was once one of the most active with its striking conical shape before entering a period of dormancy, and Poás, famous for its massive crater and fumarolic activity. Irazú, the highest volcano in Costa Rica, offers breathtaking views and a striking crater, while Turrialba remains one of the most active volcanic regions. These volcanoes not only attract tourists but also play a vital role in the country's geography and ecology by enriching the soil, supporting agriculture, and enhancing Costa Rica's biodiversity.
