Finches - New World Sparrows - Grosbeaks

Manuel Antonio National Park is home to a variety of avian species, including Finches (Fringillidae), New World Sparrows (Passerellidae), and Grosbeaks (Coccothraustidae). These birds play crucial roles in the park's ecosystems, particularly in seed dispersal and vegetation management. Finches, with their small size and diverse plumage, are commonly found in the park’s forest edges, where they forage for seeds and insects. New World Sparrows, known for their adaptability, inhabit a range of habitats from dense shrubs to open grasslands within the park. Their diet primarily consists of seeds, which they skillfully crack with their strong beaks. Grosbeaks, with their robust beaks, are typically found in the park's more wooded areas, where they feed on seeds and fruits. Together, these species contribute to the rich biodiversity of Manuel Antonio, serving as both ecological agents and indicators of the health of this vital ecosystem.
