Pelicans - Frigatebirds

Manuel Antonio National Park is home to several striking seabirds, including Pelicans (Pelecanidae) and Frigatebirds (Fregatidae), both of which are commonly found along the park's coastal waters. Pelicans, such as the Brown Pelican, are known for their distinctive long bills and large throat pouches, which they use to scoop up fish while diving from the air. These graceful birds are often seen gliding above the water or diving in synchronized groups to forage. Frigatebirds, including the Magnificent Frigatebird, are known for their impressive aerial prowess. They have long, slender wings and a forked tail, which allows them to soar effortlessly over the ocean. These birds are often seen high in the sky, where they use their agility to hunt flying fish or steal prey from other seabirds. Both Pelicans and Frigatebirds play important roles in the park’s coastal ecosystems, contributing to the health of marine food webs and enhancing the biodiversity of Manuel Antonio National Park.
