Swallows

Manuel Antonio National Park is home to several species of Swallows (Hirundinidae), graceful aerial insectivores that play an important role in controlling insect populations. Swallows, such as the Cliff Swallow and the Barn Swallow, are often seen soaring above the park’s diverse landscapes, catching insects mid-flight. Their acrobatic flight and wide distribution across the park’s forests, coastal areas, and open spaces make them key contributors to maintaining the ecological balance. Swallows build their nests in sheltered locations, such as cliffs or man-made structures, and their presence is a clear indicator of a healthy environment. These birds not only help regulate insect populations but also enhance the biodiversity of Manuel Antonio National Park with their migratory patterns and dynamic behaviors.
