Tanagers - Seedeaters

Manuel Antonio National Park is home to a rich diversity of Tanagers (Thraupidae) and Seedeaters (Emberizidae), both of which contribute significantly to the park’s ecosystems. Tanagers, with their bright, colorful plumage, are primarily frugivores and play an essential role in seed dispersal. They can be found in the park’s lush forests and woodlands, where they feed on a variety of fruits and berries, aiding in the regeneration of plant species. Seedeaters, such as the Grassland Seedeater, are primarily granivorous and help maintain the balance of plant populations by consuming seeds. Their feeding habits help control the abundance of certain plant species, contributing to the overall health of the park’s flora. Both Tanagers and Seedeaters are key ecological players in Manuel Antonio, enriching the park’s biodiversity and helping maintain its vibrant ecosystems.
