Toucans

Manuel Antonio National Park is home to several species of Toucans (Ramphastidae), iconic birds known for their vibrant plumage and large, colorful bills. These striking birds are typically found in the park’s tropical forests, where they play important roles in seed dispersal. Toucans feed primarily on fruits, berries, and occasionally insects, using their large bills to grasp and manipulate food. Their feeding habits contribute to the regeneration of forest plants by dispersing seeds across the park’s diverse habitats. The Black-mandible Toucan, with its bright yellow and green plumage, is one of the most recognizable species in the park. Toucans are not only essential ecological agents but also key indicators of the health of tropical forest ecosystems, making them a highlight for both researchers and birdwatchers in Manuel Antonio.
