Tyrant - Flycatchers

Manuel Antonio National Park is home to a diverse range of Tyrant Flycatchers (Tyrannidae), a family of birds known for their agility and important ecological roles. These flycatchers are typically found in the park’s varied habitats, from dense forests to open woodlands, where they actively hunt for insects, particularly in mid-air. Their sharp, rapid flight and keen predatory skills help control insect populations, making them essential for maintaining the park’s ecological balance. Species such as the Social Flycatcher and the Great Kiskadee are common in the park, often perched prominently while waiting to catch flying insects. Tyrant Flycatchers are vital components of the food web, contributing to both the diversity and health of the park’s tropical ecosystems.
